I turned away from her and rushed back to the porch where I spun around and waved one more time. She climbed in the passenger seat, and a couple moments later, the car backed out of the drive.

A sinking feeling settled in the pit of my stomach as I realized Gram had been right. We’d never spent Christmas apart, and it was going to suck. I wrapped my arms around myself and used my hands to rub each of my arms.

“Brr,” I said to Reggie as I stepped back inside and pulled the door closed.
